AMD has recruited ex Sun/StorageTek chief marketeer Nigel Dessau to be its chief marketing officer.
The urbane and polished Dessau was SVP alliances and licensing, a recent move from being SVP storage marketing. When Sun moved much of its StorageTek storage products into the systems business under John Fowler, which already had a marketing person, Dessau went sideways to alliances and IP licensing.
Before joining StorageTek and becoming its chief marketing officer, prior to its acquisition by Sun, Dessau worked for 19 years at IBM.
Several senior StorageTek executives have trekked boldly but to little avail out of Sun. Brenda Zawatski became head of sales at Pillar Data. She resigned a few months ago. Kathleen Holmgren became CEO of Mendocino which has crashed and burned. Let’s hope Nigel Dessau doesn’t share their fate.
Dirk Meyer, AMD’s president and COO, said: “Nigel’s customer knowledge and experience working for IBM and Sun are tremendous assets … As we deliver platforms and solutions to best meet our customers’ needs, we will lean heavily on Nigel – who has a proven track record of developing and executing clear, compelling global marketing campaigns.”
AMD also appointed Ahmed Mahmoud as its new CIO on March 11th. He came from Dell.
