Hard drive options later

ASUS' forthcoming Eee PC 900 sub-notebook will only have flash solid state disk (SSD) storage when it launches in April in the USA.

As reported here, the Eee PC 900 will have 8GB of SSD storage for Windows XP but 12 or 20GB for Xandros Linux models.

CEO Jerry Chen said that hard drive options will be offered sometime after June.

Compared to the first generation Eee PC 401, the new model will have a larger 8.9-inch screen and a higher display resolution. It will also use Intel's new low power-draw Atom processors, although Celeron's will have to be used at launch - the Atoms won't be ready. ASUS wants to build future versions of its Eee PC so that a battery can power the device for 8 hours or more.

Expect the Eee PC 900 to cost $499 at launch and to be available in lots of colourful case options.
