Quantum launches ‘Dummies’ guides to end de-duplication confusion

March 26, 2008 – Quantum Corp. (NYSE:QTM), the leading global specialist in backup, recovery and archive, has today announced the availability of its Data De-duplication for Dummies® Special Edition guides.

The guides are designed to explain de-duplication and its business benefits in ‘plain English’. It includes answers to questions commonly asked by those considering investing in the technology.

Duplicate data, such as a presentation sitting on hundreds of users’ network folders or a group email in thousands of inboxes, is an issue for most UK businesses. This redundant data makes storage and protection more costly, time consuming and less efficient.

Developed in partnership with Wiley Publishing, Inc., the publishers of the well-known Dummies series of guide books, Data De-duplication for Dummies® explains techniques and technologies from Quantum to help businesses eliminate duplicate data, reduce disk requirements and lower network bandwidth needs.

Steve Mackey, UK area sales director, said: “De-duplication offers incredible advantages to businesses trying to manage data growth and undertake backups in ever-shrinking backup windows. We’ve received feedback that while many are familiar with the term de-duplication, they don’t have a full understanding of what it means and what it can do for their business.  That’s why we’ve developed the Dummies guides – to offer easy-to-follow, objective and accurate information on the issue.”
