Xbox 360 to get Blu-ray after all
posted on 01 April 2008 04:59
According to a report Microsoft will equip the Xbox 360 with a Blu-ray drive, contrary to its current denials.
An industry source says Lite-On, based in Taiwan, is developing the drives for Microsoft to replace the drives for the now failed and withdrawn HD-DVD format. Microsoft will receive Blu-ray drive shipments after June 1 this year.
The drives are intended for use in Microsoft's next-generation Xbox 360 console.
Lite-on currently supplies some of the Xbox 360's internal DVD drives. The company, both companies, did not comment.
It s also reported that Lite-On has won a contract from Dell to supply Blu-ray drives. A shipment rate of 20,000-30,000 a month is mentioned.
