SAS-2 demonstrated

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PMC-Sierra, Inc. (NASDAQ:PMCS - News) and Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX - News) today announced the companies achieved interoperability between PMC-Sierra’s end-to-end 6Gb/s SAS chipset and Seagate’s early development 6Gb/s SAS Hard Disk Drives (HDDs).

This successful demonstration of 6Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) interoperability provides server and storage system equipment manufacturers with an end-to-end system architecture that delivers new levels of scalability, availability and reliability.

Interoperability testing demonstrated 6Gb/s line rate traffic exchanges between Seagate’s early development 6Gb/s SAS HDDs and PMC-Sierra’s 6Gb/s SAS chipsets, which includes the Tachyon® SPC 8x6G SAS protocol controller, the SRC 8x6G RAID-on-Chip controller and maxSAS™ SXP 36/24x6GSec expander switches.

“As a leading provider of enterprise storage system solutions for networked and server storage applications, PMC-Sierra is focused on ensuring that fully interoperable components are available to reduce time-to-market for 6Gb/s SAS/SATA systems,” said Travis Karr, vice president of marketing for PMC-Sierra’s Enterprise Storage Division. “This achievement provides server and storage system OEMs with the confidence that PMC-Sierra and Seagate® products will work together seamlessly in a SAS-2 eco-system.”

“Seagate’s Serial Attached SCSI enterprise customers demand the highest levels of reliability and performance along with the latest technology in our products,” said Henry Fabian, executive director of Seagate’s Enterprise Product Marketing. “By ensuring interoperability with other technology leaders like PMC-Sierra, Seagate is leading the way with 6Gb/s SAS to enable our customers to benefit from fully interoperable system solutions in the future.”
