Sony wants Blu-Ray to eat into DVD sales
posted on 07 April 2008 10:29
It is reported that Sony wants a half share of the optical disk market for Blu-ray, meaning it will have to replace some DVD share.
Blu-ray has a fifth of the optical disk market at the moment with DVD having 80 percent.
Sony expects PlayStation III sales to increase; the product is a Blu-ray player, as the number of movis on Blu-ray increases.
The firm will also expand the number of intelligent devices using Blu-ray according to Ryoji Chubachi, CEO of Sony Electronics. For example, a high-definition LCD TV will be given a Blu-ray disk recorder. We can also expect more Blu-ray notebook computers.
Sony wants to achieve its 50 percent market share by the end of the year, suggesting some pretty aggressive market promotional activity.
