LaCie's designer hard disk box
posted on 07 April 2008 13:31
LaCie has a line of hard drives called the Hard Disk, Designed by Neil Poulton. It's added a 3-way interface version sporting USB 2.0. eSATA, and FireWire 400.
Originally there was just a single USB interface. The eSATA interface offers 1.5Gbit/s.
There are 500GB, 750GB and 1TB capacity points for this attractive-looking shiny black, mirror-look cased, desktop unit.
A blue LED strip puts out the ambient light. The box uses natural heat dissipation via bottom plate vents. Plug and play setup is simple and efficient with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Mac OS X 10.3 or higher.
LaCie states 'The product comes preloaded with LaCie ‘1-Click’ Backup Software for PC and Mac and the Mac-only SilverKeeper; both are simple to use software solutions for regularly backing up any system. Also preloaded is the LaCie Setup Assistant, a utility that optimizes the drive according to your needs and automatically copies the user manual and utilities to the computer (Mac, Windows, or cross-platform environments).'
Presumably Mac OS X's Time Manager can take over the drive in a Mac-only environment.
The product is available now from LaCie and its dealers, priced at $149. The USB-only version costs $109.99. UK prices are: 500GB - £99; 750GB - £149; 1TB - £199; USB-only - £69.
