MonoSphere and the Storage Horizon
posted on 04 May 2008 16:35
Storage capacity management supplier MonoSphere is going to upgrade its Storage Horizon product so that it can identify and reclaim dark storage.
Storage Horizon identifies who is using what capacity in your data centre's storage resources. A white paper describes what it does in more detail.
Dark storage, like dark fibre, is storage capacity that is present in a data centre but not used. What's worse is that it cannot be seen by existing storage resource management tools because it appears to be assigned but isn't actually used.
According to Jon Toigo a major new Storage Horizon release is coming which will identify such orphanned storage and enable it to be reclaimed, giving you an immediate increase in your usable storage capacity.
