Casio's DRAM-rich digital camera
posted on 04 May 2008 17:07
Casio's EX-F1 digital camera has 4Gbits of DRAM inside it enabling to take high frame rate videos.
DRAM (dynamic random access memory) is the fast memory used inside server, desktop and notebook computers. The Exilim EX-F1 is a $999 camera that can shoot still images at 60 images a second, and video at 1200fps (frames per second). Everyday digital cameras generally achieve a 10fps rate and have up to 1GBit of DRAM.
The EX-F1 can also take full high-definition (1080/60i) H.264 movies. It is thought that the EX-F1 might actually have more DRAM than the 4Gbits found on its mainboard, buried, for example, in other main board chips. This might be needed to make the extraordinarily high video rate possible.
A straight conversion of 4Gbits is 500MB.
