Tandberg Data adds third UK distributor

Micro-P to add RDX sales boost

Troubled but recovering tape automation vendor Tandberg Data has added Micro-P as a distributor in the UK.

Micro-P is a trade-only distributor of PCs, peripherals, storage and networking products and will carry Tandberg's full line of tape libraries, autoloaders and drives, disk-based storage and data media. It has 8,000 VARs, etc, on its books which should widen Tandberg's coverage in the UK.

Gary Preston, Tandberg's north and south EMEA sales director, said: “Adding Micro-P as one of our distribution partners will be a significant factor in increasing Tandberg Data’s market share in the UK. It allows us to touch a greater volume of partners and provides our current resellers with  a healthy choice of supply route."

That indicates Tandberg wants a bit of distributor competition. It also wants to boost RDX QuikStor removable drive sales, the announcement stating: 'Micro-P’s progressive marketing and communications to the channel will also provide one of the best routes to market for new versions of the RDX QuikStor disk-based removable storage system.'

Micro-P customers will also benefit from Tandberg Data’s revamped Partner Programme, which provides the backbone from which UK resellers can optimise sales, marketing and technical support.

Tandberg Data will continue to work with its two current UK distributors, Northamber and CMS Peripherals, who are probably not best pleased with this new arrangement.
