First-to-Market 16GB Kit Puts 256GB of Memory in HP ProLiant DL585 G2 and New DL585 G5 Servers

Dataram announced the immediate availability of a first-to-market 16GB memory upgrade for Hewlett-Packard's ProLiant DL585 G2 and new ProLiant DL585 G5 servers.

The 16GB upgrade allows customers to double the maximum memory capacity of these systems from 128GB to 256GB.

Dataram's DRH585G2/16GB consists of a matched pair of DDR2-667 PC2-5300 ECC Registered 8GB DIMMs. Each DIMM supports Command/Address Parity with ECC for enhanced reliability. In addition to the new 16GB offering, Dataram also offers 2GB, 4GB and 8GB upgrade kits.

4-socket, 16-core Opteron Servers

The HP ProLiant DL585 G2 and DL585 G5 are four-socket servers featuring two or four dual- and quad-core AMD Opteron processors. Each processor socket controls eight DIMM slots, enabling up to 32 slots when all four processors are installed. The servers come standard with as little as 4GB (4x1GB) for a dual-socket model or 8GB (8x1GB) for a quad-socket model. Both servers support up to 256GB using sixteen of Dataram's DRH585G2/16GB memory kits.

Memory Configuration Rules:

ProLiant DL585 G2 and ProLiant DL585 G5

- The servers have 32 DIMM slots
- DIMMs are installed in matched pairs, called a "bank"
- Each of the four processors controls 8 DIMM slots (four banks of two)
- The first bank for processor #1 must always be populated
- The other three groups of 8 DIMM slots are only activated in models where their associated processors are present
- Additional processors can be installed without memory

HP states when mixing banks of different capacities on a given processor, the largest capacity DIMMs should be installed in the banks farthest from the processor.

The servers support up to 256GB when 8GB DIMMs are installed in all 32 slots If more than two banks (4 DIMM slots) on a processor node are populated, the maximum memory clock speed will be 533MHz. If two or fewer banks on a node are populated, the maximum memory clock speed will be 667Mhz
