Emulex and QLogic get 8Gbit HBAs qualified with EMC
posted on 09 May 2008 08:02
Emulex and QLogic 8Gbit/s host bus adapters (HBAs) have been qualified for use with EMC drive arrays.
Celerra, CLARiiON and Symmetric arrays can be connected to through Emulex' LightPulse LPe 1200 8Gbit/s HBA family of products. These double the speed of the preceding 4Gbit/s products and Emulex says they make good sense as servers running virtual machines need more HBA I/O capacity.
The 8Gbit/s HBAs are backwards-compatible with 2 and 4Gbit/s Fibre Channel products; in other words they can connect to 2 and 4Gbit/s arrays.
The LPe 1200 product set includes the dual channel LPe12002, single channel LPe12000 and midrange LPe1250.
QLogic has announced that its 2500 Series of 8Gbit/s HBAs have been qualified by EMC for the same set of drive array products, and also by HP. QLogic has 16Gbit/s Fibre Channel development work ongoing.
