Iomega's Camo drive for clumsy people

Drops of up to 5 feet are survivable

Fashion and street style cred has inluenced Iomega with its latest portable hard drive, the eGo Camo; it has a woodland camouflage pattern cover.

Inside the curved case is a 2.5-inch 250GB hard drive, no surprises there, and the Camo's tough-looking image is actually justified; the drive can withstand drops of up to 60 inches (152cms). Iomega says other manufacturer's portable drives can only withstand falls of less than 40 inches - so clumsier people will choose Camo. But their socks may get knocked off, according to IOmega's global product manager for HDD products:

"Unlike mundane, run-of-the-mill looking branded portable hard drives, Iomega's eGo Portable Hard Drive line features a palette of bright colors that knocks the socks off anything else in the market. With the new eGo Camo Portable Hard Drive, Iomega adds a style of adventure and intrigue to the eGo color kaleidoscope. No self-respecting 'camo' lover will be without it. Expect to see more exciting additions like the new Camo to the Iomega eGo drive line in the future."

Forget speeds and feeds; what we have here is a way for external hard drive buyers to expand their colour kaleidoscope.

The USB-powered Camo, which comes with EMC's Retrospect backup software, supports Windows (2000, XP, Vista) and the Mac OS, and the US street price is $149. It is available now - if clumsy people can get to the shops without falling over.
