Customers buy more QLogic host bus adapters (HBAs) than any other vendor's and QLogic has gained HBA market share over its nearest competitor, Emulex, for four quarters in a row.

Research consultancy Dell'Oro says QLogic has achieved a 50 percent market share in overall storage area network SAN/ HBA revenue for the first time. QLogic ranked number one in every category of SAN HBA revenue and port market share and has a double digit lead over the nearest competitor.

QLogic also led the competition in the fast-growing market for blade server mezzanine cards, achieving a 73.1 percent revenue share and 73.8 percent port share for the first calendar quarter of 2008.

This is a reminder that Brocade is going to face strong competition in the HBA market. Like Brocade and Emulex, QLogic is also making Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) to carry Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) traffic as well as standard LAN traffic.
