Atempo makes LiveBackup cloud-compliant

posted on 21 May 2008 03:21

Adds features for SaaS service providers

Atempo has updated its LiveBackup product making it better suited to service providers offering software-as-a-service (SaaS) in cloud computing environments.

LiveBackup delivers continuous data protection that automatically and continuously captures and tracks data changes as they occur on any network-connected desktop or laptop.

Version 3.2 adds increased scalability per server and support for Max OS X and Linux clients alongside the existing Windows support. This cross-platform support gives LiveBackup the ability to protect all computers and notebooks in an organization. Atempo has also added new administrative and reporting features. Specifically there can be multiple administration levels underneath an overall 'super' administrator.

Sub-groups can have their own unique data protection policies. These can coincide with different customers of a service provider or different units within a single customer.

The cross-platform support and the better use of server resources added to this support of multiple clients with individual protection policies makes LiveBackup 3.2 especially attractive to cloud computing/SaaS service providers.

Karim Toubba, Atempo's VP of marketing and product management, said: “LiveBackup 3.2 opens the door for Atempo to sell into new markets through new business models. We look forward to working closely with our service provider partners to deliver our CDP technology through a SaaS model."

LiveBackup is designed to suit mid-size to large companies that require client-side backup that doesn't compromise end-user productivity and requires minimal IT supervision. It conserves both network bandwidth and storage space, and works in the background, automatically backing up data wherever a client computer is located: corporate headquarters; a remote office; or on a secured Internet connection. The software offers a range of recovery capabilities from self-serve file restoration of lost or accidentally deleted files to complete system recovery.

Live Backup 3.2  will be available for Windows in June, with support for Mac OS X and Linux in July.
