More NOR chips per wafer
Intel:STM SSD joint-venture Numonyx has started prototyping its 45nm process in an Israeli plant.
The move, which will increase the number of NOR flash chips each wafer yields, is necessary for Numonyx to become profitable. It will be the only NOR flash manufacturer using such an advanced process which should give it a cost-advantage.
Currently it uses 90 and 65nm processes at its Kiryat Gar facility in Israel. Full production of 45nm process wafers is expected to begin before the end of 2008.
