Iomega intros 1TB portable drive
posted on 29 May 2008 23:26
EMC's about-to-be Iomega unit has upgraded its eGo portable hard drive to the 1TB level.
The eGo range has capacity levels of 160GB, 250GB and 320GB and has several packaging options, including the recently introduced Camo model and a leather-wrapped version.
The new eGo Desktop model contains a 1TB 3.5-inch drive spinning at 7,200 rpm with a 8MB cache and has the now-standard USB 2.0 connectivity. The curved case is available in black, blue and a ruby red.
Peter Wharton, Iomega's marketing VP, waxed lyrical about the product: "By applying the award-winning style of the eGo design to a desktop hard drive, Iomega is giving users a one-terabyte Super eGo that’s all about form and function, a beautiful and pleasing design for even the most data-intensive applications. Today’s computer users want more style, capacity, and data security out of their computer hardware; the colorful, dependable and colossal one terabyte eGo Desktop Hard Drive delivers on all counts."
It comes bundled with a Retrospect backup software license for Windows users. Apple Mac OS X 10.1 or higher users pay the same - $256.45 (£149.99 inc VAT in the UK) - but won't find Retrospect any use.
Iomega is showing a high degree of retail smarts with the eGo and its other consumer products, with rapid packaging and capacity innovation.
