Nirvanix download twice as fast as Amazon's S3

Nirvanix might say that's 'S' for 'slow' in S3

Cloud storage platform provider Nirvanix announced that its Storage Delivery Network is averaging 200 percent faster downloads than Amazon's S3 service for large files.

This is the conclusion from looking at third-party testing service data from Webmetrics. It's also been verified by customers.

One customer, 3Tera, tested various back-end cloud storage platforms, including the Nirvanix SDN and Amazon S3, as a backup target of its AppLogic Grid Operating System to measure performance speed for grid computing operations.

Bert Armijo, VP of Sales, Marketing and Product Management at 3Tera, said: "We are always testing online storage systems and we were very impressed by the performance we obtained in using the Nirvanix SDN. Quite simply, it reliably performed more than twice as fast as Amazon S3 and provided users access to their data in multiple locations simultaneously. Such speed and replication enable disaster recovery and scaling for our customers."

Patrick Harr, CEO and a Nirvanix founder, said: “The design and business intent of the SDN are different than that of any online storage system that exists. The results, which will continue to increase their performance margin over time, are a result of optimizing the Nirvanix Internet File System for large files, designing in an ability to load balance locally and globally across storage nodes, and because the SDN can intelligently move the file to the edge, closest to the user.”

The Storage Delivery Network (SDN) is a global cluster of storage nodes which uses the Nirvanix Internet Media File System and stores, delivers and processes storage requests in the best network location for customers, beaing able to store multiple file copies in multiple geographic nodes to optimize data availability.
