Hitachi Consulting enlarges on dedupe choice
posted on 06 June 2008 15:12
Yesterday it was announced that Hitachi Consulting chose an ExaGrid deduplication system after evaluating it along with products from Data Domain, Quantum and Ubistor. The Hitachi Data Systems Diligent deduplication product was not selected.
Hitachi Consulting, a companion Hitachi subsidiary to HDS, was advised by its IT team that the HDS Diligent deduplication product was designed for larger applications than that needed by Hitachi Consulting.
According to Brian Bourque, an industry marketing manager at Hitachi Consulting, the company was not looking for a deduplication product that had a virtual tape library (VTL) interface, and these two things ruled Diligent out.
Bourque said: "It was not that the Diligent product was inferior in any way; it was just not the right system for us."
