Seamless Migration to Next-Generation SAN Technology Offers Higher Performance and Enhanced Virtualization Capabilities

LAS VEGAS, June 18, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- HP Technology Forum -- HP Technology Forum -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that its Emulex LightPulse(r) 8Gb/s Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) are now supported in the HP ProLiant rack-, tower- and blade-based server portfolio running Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 and Linux operating systems.

The new Emulex LPe12000 single-channel and LPe12002 dual-channel 8Gb/s PCI Express HBAs offer increased bandwidth, manageability and CPU efficiency, which are required to support the increasing deployment of virtualized servers. Emulex's LPe12002 8Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs offer 37 percent greater performance over competing 8Gb/s products.

"Emulex continues to work closely with HP to deploy server and storage solutions that provide greater functionality, improved system-level performance and increased application responsiveness," said Mike Smith, executive vice president, worldwide marketing, Emulex Corporation. "Combining Emulex 8Gb/s HBAs and HP ProLiant servers enables customers to effectively connect large numbers of servers and arrays found in enterprise-class data centers, and experience uncompromised reliability, availability, serviceability and security."

"Customers can lower infrastructure costs by combining the most up-to-date storage connectivity technologies with the industry-leading HP ProLiant server platform," said John Gromala, director, product marketing, ProLiant Servers, HP. "The HP ProLiant server portfolio works with the Emulex 8Gb/s HBAs to provide an affordable, seamless migration to next-generation SAN environments."

The Emulex LightPulse family of HBAs also supports Virtual HBA technology, which provides the scalability necessary to support an increase in the number of applications running on virtualized servers. Emulex LightPulse Virtual HBA technology allows end users to effectively virtualize the HBA functionality so each virtual machine running on a server can have independent access to its own protected storage. Customers may also leverage SAN management tools and best practices, such as fabric zoning and LUN mapping/masking.

In addition, Emulex 8Gb/s HBAs support Message-Signaled Interrupts eXtended (MSI-X), which is an interrupt handling mechanism in the PCI standard for today's multi-core and multi-processor servers. MSI-X enables improved overall performance, reduced host CPU utilization and lower latencies.
