posted on 20 June 2008 07:21
Western Digital has introduced its third generation SATA drive which is faster and spins with reduced vibration.
The RE3 drives have a dual processor controller which makes them 20 percent faster than WD's second generation drives. They are also said to be 60 percent better at vibration control with both linear and rotational vibration reduced. Co-incidentally WD has just been named in a patent infringement suit by Convolve concerning vibration control technology.
The drives have an improved ability for the read heads to fly up and down to match surface level fluctuations in the platters. They drives feature 1.2 million hours MTBF and and go through an enhanced testing process to ensure long-term reliability for enterprise applications.
