Mtron to double SSD controller speed
posted on 23 June 2008 08:42
Mtron has announced new solid state drive (SSD) controller technology that doubles read and write I/O speeds by doubling up on channels. It has also announced new products in the mobile device and extreme environment markets.
The current Mtron SSD controller has 4 channels and carries out read/write IOs at 130/120 MB/sec. The new technology employs 8 channels and the read/write I/O numbers are 260/240 MB/sec. This is with single-level cell technology.
SSDs equipped with the new controllers will be introduced early in 2009. Current Mtron enterprise SSDs have serial ATA (SATA) interfaces.
Mtron has also introduced two new SSDs for the mobile device market: the SSD Express Card and the Mini PCI-E Card, both operating at 110/65 MB/sec read/write speed.
At the other end of the scale, with SSDs for extreme environments, Mtron has announced the XTM 7500 which NASA will use in its Anita gas monitoring experiment on the International Space Station.
