Packard Bell PCs go into Carbonite cloud

posted on 25 June 2008 08:05

Online backup but only in Europe

All Packard Bell desktops and notepads sold in Europe will now include a free 4 month subscription to Carbonite Online Backup.

This provides the ability for users to backup their hard drive files to Carbonite's remote data centers and thus safeguard and share their files.

This is the first partnership between an independent online backup company and a major PC manufacturer. Carbonite hopes it will serve as a milestone in the online backup industry, trailblazing the incorporation of pre-installed online backup services on PCs.

Floyd Bradley, international EVP for Carbonite, stated the obvious: “Carbonite is very pleased that Packard Bell decided to bundle their desktops and notebooks with our online PC backup.”

The only requirements needed to start the service are an email address and password for encrypting the transmitted data. At the end of the free subscription period, Packard Bell customers can renew their protection for an additional year for only £29.99 in the UK including VAT (€49 in Europe and SEK 450 in Sweden).

The pre-loaded software for Carbonite’s Online Backup will be available to Packard Bell customers in eight languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Swedish. Users in multi-lingual countries such as Belgium and Switzerland will have their choice of language at the time of the PC setup process.

Expect a flurry of me-too services to appear virtually over night.
