Release: Infortrend Fibre Channel Host RAID Arrays Pass VMware Hardware Certification Program
posted on 25 June 2008 08:37
Basingstoke, UK, 24th June 2008 – Networked storage expert Infortrend® today announced that its EonStor® Fibre Channel (FC) host arrays have entered the VMware Hardware Certification Program, which verifies that the systems are fully operational within the VMware® Infrastructure (see list of certified EonStor arrays below.)
This compatibility allows Infortrend customers to use VMware Infrastructure to help maintain and manage their storage assets by making the best use of existing storage; controlling growth and improving resource utilisation and administrator productivity; streamlining and simplifying resource management; and building flexible, scalable network storage environments. VMware increases the efficient utilisation of the RAID subsystems, which reduces energy use and directly benefits a company by cutting its energy bills and operating expenses.
In addition to EonStor FC-host arrays, Infortrend has also submitted its iSCSI-host SAN subsystems for VMware hardware certification testing. As a VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) member, Infortrend will have closer collaboration with VMware to ensure future EonStor products meet VMware compatibility requirements.
Widely recognised as the leader in the virtualisation marketplace, the VMware hypervisor is a thin virtualisation layer that partitions the physical server so multiple virtual machines can run simultaneously on a single server. Computing resources of the physical server are treated as a uniform pool of resources that can be allocated to virtual machines in a controlled manner. VMware software isolates each virtual machine from its host and other virtual machines, leaving them unaffected if an application in a virtual machine crashes. Data does not leak across virtual machines and applications can only communicate over pre-configured network connections.
“By successfully passing the VMware Hardware Certification Program, Infortrend can now deliver RAID storage that has been certified to work with the VMware ESX product,” said Thomas Kao, director of product planning at Infortrend Technology Inc. “IT managers can combine our high-performance Fibre Channel host RAID arrays with VMware software to build flexible, scalable SANs that are efficient and easy to manage.”
