Brocade to announce HBA OEMs
posted on 25 June 2008 12:15
A well-informed source has been told to expect announcements by Brocade of OEM deals for its line of Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs).
Currently Brocade has no OEMs at all for its newly-introduced line of HBAs which were launched into a market dominated by Emulex and QLogic. It is positioning its HBAs as being better integrated with its Silkworm storage area network (SAN) switches and directors so that applications and servers accessing a SAN through a Brocade HBA-switch/director combination will be able to have better access to storage resources.
So far independent testing commissioned by Emulex suggests the opposite.
Potential Brocade HBA OEMs could include HP, IBM and Sun. Brocade may use pricing to gain some HBA market share.
