Franklin & Marshall College Named Finalist in Servers and Virtualization Category

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Compellent Technologies, Inc. (NYSE Arca: CML) today announced its customer Munder Capital Management won IDG’s Computerworld “Best Practices in Infrastructure Management” Award in the Data Center Management, IT Operations and Business Continuity category.

Munder Capital Management, a financial investment firm with $29.6 billion in managed assets, was honored for its implementation of Compellent’s storage area network (SAN) as the foundation for its business continuity strategy.

Franklin & Marshall, a highly selective liberal arts college located in Lancaster, Penn. and Compellent customer, was named a finalist in the Servers and Virtualization category. The college was nominated for supporting a campus-wide sustainability initiative using Compellent virtualized storage and VMware virtual servers to eliminate hardware and reduce energy consumption.

“‘The Best Practices in Infrastructure Management’ Awards Program is prestigious and we’re pleased our customers were recognized for their innovation,” said Bruce Kornfeld, vice president of marketing, Compellent. “Compellent strives to provide end-users with virtualized storage tools like thin replication that can protect and recover critical data across the enterprise, while reducing their storage costs and power needs.”

Munder Capital Management installed two Compellent SANs, one in its headquarters in Birmingham, Mich., and the other at a remote site seven miles away. The firm utilizes Compellent’s Data Instant Replay software to create space-efficient data snapshots and Remote Instant Replay to replicate these snapshots between the sites. Munder Capital Management also blends storage and server virtualization to further simplify disaster recovery, increase storage performance and reduce costs.

“Compellent’s technology helps us ensure business continuity across the company and get our people and processes back up and running quickly in the event of a data outage,” said Michael Dufek, director of information systems, Munder Capital Management. “We now have the ability to recover from a data disaster in just minutes, and test applications and servers without impacting our operations. We’re thrilled Computerworld recognized the depth of our disaster tolerance strategy and awarded our team with this honor.”

In the Data Center Management, IT Operations and Business Continuity category, the “Best Practices in Infrastructure Management” Awards Program recognizes case studies that focus on the design, architecture, construction and maintenance of the data center, as well as the strategies and policies that ensure data and the information and applications crucial to the success of the business are accessible, properly backed up and protected in case of systems failure.

Award recipients were recognized at the “Best Practices in Infrastructure Management” Awards presentation during Computerworld’s Infrastructure Management World event at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md. on June 18, 2008.
