Overland's twin track deduplication strategy

Software and hardware

Vern LoForti, Overland Storage CEO, says Overland is developing its own in-house software deduplication technology, saying: "We have in development a product, that will incorporate our own software deduplication technology, coming along very well."

Simultaneously Overland is developing a capability to add deduplication in a chip to its product line. Hifn has been mentioned as a possible supplier in this regard. Overland's marketing VP, Ravi Pendekanti, expects the software deduplication to be delivered first, before the hardware dedupe, but it is too early to provide timescales for this.

We might speculate that Overland's REO disk backup and recovery, ULTAMUS SAN data protection and Snap Server NAS data protection disk-based products could enjoy deduplication benefits with Overland data transport technology  being used to link remote sites for disaster recovery. The current relationship with Diligent for its deduplication products may then be re-examined.
