Cox Business offers cloud backup to business
posted on 07 July 2008 09:31
Cox Business is offering online backup to small and medium businesses (SME) in northern Virginia that use its cable-delivered Internet services.
This is an example of how cloud backup and file sharing services are spreading and becoming part of the everyday services offered by business ISPs.
Premium Online Backup stores a business' data at a secure off-site location. The service will benefit tele-workers, home based businesses, SMB's, business travelers, and others that need an easy-to-use and cost-effective data back-up and file sharing service for their information.
J.D. Myers, VP of Cox Business, said:"The data on a business customer's PC is often the life blood of their business and for many small businesses and home offices, that data is not as well protected as it should be. Premium Online Back-up provides businesses with an online back-up solution that enables them to store their data easily and securely at an off site data storage facility. Businesses of all sizes can experience data loss and delays in operations due to a disaster. With our Premium Online Back-up services the data is automatically encrypted and stored at redundant data centers as often as customers would like.""
Cox Business is a full-service, facilities-based provider of communications solutions for commercial customers, providing high-speed Internet, voice and long distance services, as well as data and video transport services for small to large-sized businesses. It also offers Premium Security Suite to provide anti-virus, anti-spywarefunctions, and a firewall for intrusion detection. It is part of Cox Communications, the third-largest cable TV operator in the USA.
Premium Online Back-up enables customers to establish a data back-up profile that includes the specific files to be backed-up and the frequency of back-up. Once the profile has been established and implemented, back-up is automatic and the customer can forget about it and focus on their business. Additionally, Premium Online Back-up provides customers with online file sharing and 'Whalemail'. Whalemail capability enables customers to provide others with secure access to centrally stored files via an e-mail link and provides administrative tools that enable the customer administrator to manage the storage space and run usage reports.
