New Solution Ensures Sensitive Information is Secure and Available 24/7

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – July 14, 2008 – Omneon, Inc., a leading provider of media server and active storage systems for the broadcast and digital content markets, today announced that it is partnering with Bycast Inc. to deliver highly scalable data protection and preservation to customers that need rapid access to vital data.

The solution combines Omneon's MediaGrid™ clustered storage platform with Bycast's StorageGRID® storage management software.

“We are very pleased to be teaming with Omneon and are excited about the market opportunity for the joint solution,” said Dean Neumann, Director, Product Marketing at Bycast. “Together Omneon and Bycast are delivering a solution that addresses the need for high performance and long term data storage in a single system.”

With the Omneon-Bycast solution, customers will gain a high-performance, high-availability storage platform that protects sensitive data and simplifies the management of massive archives by scaling on demand, simplifying migration and automating recovery. The Omneon-Bycast solution provides high capacity storage that automatically migrates files to the most appropriate storage tier regardless of platform type. The combined system delivers a virtualization and protection layer for the storage environment that creates a single managed “pool” of storage for the user.

“The robust data protection and preservation strengths of Bycast's StorageGRID software is a perfect complement to the scalable performance of Omneon MediaGrid,” said Dave Frederick, Director of Storage Marketing at Omneon. “This partnership reflects Omneon’s commitment to meeting the needs of organizations that require storage and immediate access to large digital media files.”

Omneon’s MediaGrid active storage system is the first content storage system of its kind, designed specifically for the demands of working with large digital media files. Combining grid storage and grid computing through the use of multiple intelligent, interconnected-yet-independent storage servers, the system dramatically enhances the efficiency of digital media access for users and applications across the entire workflow. Components of the system communicate over standard Ethernet and generate massive aggregate bandwidth that is available to external clients of the system. This eliminates bottlenecks associated with traditional shared-storage environments, while offering processing power for applications that run on it.
