Tandberg Data, almost-bankrupt and dying in 2007, is pulling off a remarkable turnaround and forecasting positive EBITDA (Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) by the end of the year. Could it make a full profit in 2009?

The movement towards profitability is based on the firm starting deliveries of its ProStor-based removable hard drive system to 'one of the largest global manufacturers and suppliers of computer products. ... Although this is a frame agreement, the volumes are expected to grow rapidly and consistently over the coming years.'

Who is that?

It's HP, by deduction. Tandberg Data has a worldwide sales and manufacturing license agreement from ProStor for its Tandberg RDX product. HP announced it's going to be offering RDX-based removable drive technology products last month. Ergo, Tandberg Data is the manufacturer and hopes or expects or both that HP will sell a bundle of them, as Dell has done.

It's understood that Tandberg also supplies Dell with RDX product.

How ironic that near-bankrupt Tandberg Data, supplier of removable tape-based products, rescues itself from oblivion by supplying removable disk products.
